Oklahoma rallies by Washington
Ricketts tosses complete game, drives in four runs in Sooner win
FULLERTON, Calif. – Ninth-ranked Oklahoma closed out action at the Judi Garman Classic Saturday morning with a 7-6 eight-inning win against fourth-ranked Washington. Keilani Ricketts (14-3) threw a complete game and drove in four runs on a 2 for 4 day at the plate to lead the Sooners (26-7) past the Huskies (21-2).
OU plated four runs in the top of the first as Brianna Turang reached on a one-out infield single and stole second. Back-to-back walks from Brittany Williams and Jessica Shults loaded the bases for Haley Nix, who then grounded out to second to score two. Shults scored on a Ricketts double to right center and Dani Dobbs then delivered a double to left center to score Ricketts.
The Huskies got one run back in the bottom half of the first. Kimi Pohlman walked and moved to second on a Jenn Salling groundout. Pohlman then scored on a double to right center by Niki Williams. Ricketts registered two strikeouts to Shawna Wright and Jerrin Fa’asua to end the inning.
Washington kept OU off the board in the top of the second and scored three unearned runs in the bottom half to even the score at 4-4. Morgan Stuart walked to lead off the inning and Kaitlyn Inglesby and Taylor Smith reached on errors as Stuart scored. A two-out double from Salling scored Inglesby and Smith to even the score.
In the top of the fifth, Brittany Williams led off with a solo home run to push OU in front 5-4. The blast was Williams’ first since Feb. 19 against Louisiana-Monroe.
Salling singled on a bunt to start the fifth for UW and moved to third on a throwing error. Fa’asua got a two-out single through the left side to score Salling and tie the game at 5-5.
After scoreless sixth and seventh innings, OU moved to its second extra-inning contest of the week. With the international tiebreaker in effect, Shults was placed on second to start the eighth inning. Nix singled to center to give the Sooners runners at the corners with no outs. Nix stole second and Ricketts brought the pair home on a single up the middle to give Oklahoma a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the frame.
Pinch runner Marki Creger-Zier was placed on second to start the eighth for the Huskies. She moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield single by Pohlman. Salling flew out to right to end the game.
Ricketts allowed six runs, just one of them earned, on eight hits and four walks. She struck out 11 batters. Turang also went 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Williams’ only hit was the solo home run. Nix, Dobbs, Destinee Martinez and Katie Norris also registered hits for the Sooners.
Fa’asua ended the game 3 for 4 for the Huskies. Salling was 2 for 5 with two RBI. UW used four pitchers in the contest. Ingelsby pitched the final 4.0 innings picking up the loss. Inglesby allowed two runs, one of them earned, on two hits. Whitney Jones started the contest. She and Jenna Clifton pitched 1.0 innings each and Bryana Walker pitched 2.0 innings.
