Bulldogs reel off two grand slams in third inning of game one
WHITTIER, Calif. -- Whittier was unable to find its offense on Sunday, losing a twin bill 19-2 and 8-0 to No. 11 Redlands.
Whittier fell to 2-4, 0-4 SCIAC, while Redlands improved to 4-4, 4-0 SCIAC.
Redlands came out with its offense in game one totaling four home runs including two grand slams from Arlene Martinez and Amanda Lievanos, and back to back to back blasts in the top of the third to extend a lead to 19-0.
The Purple & Gold rallied in the second and third innings to tack on runs behind a single from Nikki Mendoza that drove in Samantha Mellano, while Mellano walked in a run in the next inning. But that was all the offense they could muster as Uphold pitched two innings giving up four hits and one run to secure the victory.
Courtney Delano who started for the Poets went 1.1 innings giving up three hits and nine runs to go with seven walks. Her record fell to 2-2 on the season.
Game two started off differently as it turned into a pitcher's duel in the early stages of the game until Redlands added two runs in the third. The Bulldogs then came back in the next inning and put up a five runs. They added an insurance run in the fifth.
Jessica Rosnack pitched her best game of the season going 5.0 innings giving up four hits and eight runs, all unearned to go with two strikeouts.
On the other side Ruelas was able to hold the Poets scoreless over 5.0 innings surrendering just two hits.
Courtney Grana and Janae Townsend both received the two hits on the day finishing 1-2.
