Oregon powers past Nebraska
Howard’s first-inning grand slam lifts No. 19 Ducks to victory
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- No. 19 Oregon (4-2) opened the Cathedral City Classic on Friday morning with a 4-2 victory against No. 22 Nebraska. The Ducks picked up their second win of the season against a returning NCAA tourney foe.
Oregon struck quickly, thanks to a first-inning grand slam by junior second baseman Kaylan Howard. The grand slam was the third of Howard's career.
Howard previously connected on four-run shots in key tilts as a freshman in the NCAA tournament against Georgia Tech, and last May as a sophomore against then-defending NCAA champion UCLA.
