Crimson Tide improve to 18-0 on season by topping in-state foe
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Top-ranked Alabama capped off its homestand with a 7-3 victory against in-state foe Samford on Wednesday night at Rhoads Stadium. With the win the Crimson Tide remain perfect on the season with a 18-0 record.
Cassie Reilly-Boccia tallied two hits and drove in three runs while Leslie Jury struck out seven in six innings to improve to 6-0 on the campaign.
Alabama outhit Samford 9-6 with Jadyn Spencer coming off the bench to collect two hits and two RBIs.
Alabama once again got on the board early, this time in a loud way as Reilly-Boccia drilled her third home run of the season. The senior deposited a two-run shot over the wall in right-center to give the Tide a 2-0 lead.
After Jennifer Fenton hit her eighth-career triple -- placing her fourth in the UA career annals -- Reilly-Boccia struck again. This time she smacked a double down the line in right to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Tide pulled away in the fourth inning when it plated four runs. After Jazlyn Lunceford scored on an error, Spencer punched a single through the left side to score Danae Hays and Olivia Gibson. Fenton then capped the scoring with a RBI groundout to short.
Samford scored three sixth-inning runs to get on the board and prevent the shutout. Jury allowed the three runs on six hits and walked two. Amanda Locke struck out two in a perfect seventh inning to wrap up the victory for the Crimson Tide.
