Ithaca salvages another split twinbill

Bombers win nightcap behind Bender’s strong arm

CLERMONT, Fla. — No. 20 Ithaca (4-3) picked up a win and a loss for the second consecutive day it continued its spring trip at the National Training Center. The Bombers dropped a 3-1 game against Franklin & Marshall in the opening game on Thursday afternoon, then came back with a 2-1 victory against Monmouth (Ill.) in the second contest.

In the opening contest, F&M scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cruise to the win. Ithaca’s run came in the top of the sixth on a leadoff single by Francesca Busa and a double by Molly O’Donnell.

The Bombers earned a split for the day with a one-run victory against Monmouth. Sam Bender started in the circle and threw effectively. The Bombers backed her up by adding a run on an RBI hit from Carianne D’Alessandro. After building a 2-0 lead, Monmouth scored once in the top of the seventh before the Bombers closed out the win.
