COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus split a doubleheader with ninth-ranked Rowan on Thursday afternoon, as the Bears won Game 1 4-3 in nine innings while the previously undefeated Profs topped Ursinus 2-0 in Game 2.

All the action in game one took in the latter innings, as Ursinus (8-7)  took a 1-0 lead after the fifth as junior outfielder Amy Gentile singled home junior starting pitcher Jennilyn Weber.

In the seventh, Rowan (18-1) took the lead as Shannon Costello and Nicole Escudero had RBI hits.

Ursinus tied the score in the bottom of the inning as freshman pinch runner Delia Mercurio scored on a fielder’s choice.

In the eighth, both Rowan and Ursinus scored before Ursinus scored the winning run in the ninth with one out. Junior shortstop Kelsey Coyne singled home sophomore Caitlin Whelan, who was placed on second on the international tie breaker rule.

Senior designated player Kate Kehoe finished with two hits for Ursinus, while Gentile, Weber and Whelan scored runs.

Weber got the win in the circle, striking out three and allowing just two earned runs.

In Game 2, Ursinus was limited to just one run as Nikki Djambinov got a single right in front of the catcher with one out in the seventh.

Junior pitcher Kelly Schymanski took the loss, striking out four and allowing two earned runs.
