ABILENE, Texas -- Amy Meyer had a pair of walk-off hits to give Hardin-Simmons a sweep of Schreiner, winning 7-6 in the first game and 3-2 in the second game.

Schreiner took an early 3-0 lead in the first game with a three-run third as Kayla Avirett had an RBI single, a RBI single by Shelby Kimmons and a bases loaded walk by Vanessa Vasquez.

HSU responded with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third. Blair Wallace had an RBI double, Brittany Acosta had an RBI single, Shelby McIntyre had an RBI single and Carley Willis had an RBI double. HSU also scored a run on a passed ball.

The Cowgirls added a run in the fourth on a Julia Bradley RBI single. Schreiner scored two runs on a double by Charis Suitemeier in the fifth to make it 6-5. The Mountaineers tied the game on a Avirett RBI double in the sixth.

HSU won the game in the seventh. Julia Bradley led off with a single and Tera Davis pinch ran for her. Laine Strickland reached on an error and then Shelby McIntyre struck out and Bailey Watkins lined out but moved the runners to second and third. Mac Clay walked to load the bases and then Meyer had an RBI single to left.

Meyer had four hits for the Cowgirls and Blair Wallace and Julia Bradley added two hits in a 13-hit attack. Kelsey Ambrose and Kayla Avirett had three hits each for Schreiner.

Wallace went the distance in the circle to move to 10-3, allowing six runs on 10 hits. Jill McGinnis took the loss for Schreiner.

In the second game, HSU scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Clay walked to lead off the inning and Meyer doubled her in and Wallace followed with an RBI single.

The game stayed 2-0 until the sixth when Schreiner scored a run on an Ambrose RBI single. Schreiner tied the game in the seventh on a Kristi Gonzales RBI double.

In the bottom of the seventh Willis walked with one out and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Evans. Clay then walked and Meyer delivered her second game-winning hit of the day to left-center. Meyer had six hits on the day.

Sarah Shurbet improved to 7-4 with a two-hit complete-game performance. Allyson Morris took the loss allowing three runs on just three hits. Meyer had two of the Cowgirls’ three hits.

HSU is now 17-7 overall and 10-0 in ASC action. Schreiner fell to 10-16 overall and to 6-8 in ASC action.
