Illinois Wesleyan cruises to sweep
McCready hurls complete-game shutout in opener to lead Titans
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- No. 24 Illinois Wesleyan won home non-conference games by scores of 9-1 and 8-0 against No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 16-3 overall and the Warhawks dropped to 15-3.
In game one, the Titans led 2-1 before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early. Allie Riordan doubled to left center and pinch-runner Katie Bruins came around to score when the Warhawks' first baseman made a throwing error on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Sara Daley.
Daley moved to second on a sacrifice by Jessica Toth and went to third on a base hit by Chloe Montgomery into right center.
Stephanie Polich singled to move Erin Sweeney to second before Courtney Martin brought home Daley on a sacrifice fly to left.
Audra James singled to score Sweeney and Keri Leach singled home James and Polich. Emma Clark ended the game with a two-run home run to left field.
Molly McCready (6-2) was the game-one winner, going six innings and allowing two hits while striking out 10 and walking three. One of the hits was a line-drive home run by Emily Epifanio.
Clark also ended the second game with a two-run home run as the Titans collected 10 hits, scored three runs in the second inning and three more in the sixth to shorten the contest.
Martin, James and Leach all had two-hit games and Clark totaled three RBIs in game two.
Alyssa Vorel (5-1) was the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing two hits in five innings.
