LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Rachel Weaver broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) to a 5-2 victory after a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning on Thursday at the NCAA DII Softball National Championship. SJC fought off elimination by scoring five runs in the sixth to eliminate Flagler College.

Sarah Franklin shut down the Saints’ (39-20) line-up the first time through the order. However, in the fourth inning after Franklin quickly got the first two outs and seemingly the third. Breezy Collings hit a single after a benefiting from a foul call on a dribbling grounder that would have been the final out of the frame.

Alona Personius followed with another single which brought Tori Jolley to the plate. Jolley ripped a double into right-center field that plated two runs, giving the Saints a 2-0 lead. The Pumas (40-20) left runners on base in the early innings, but could not find the clutch hit.

Katie Enright continued to flirt with danger in the later innings and by the time the sixth inning rolled around the Pumas were back to the top of the order.  Both Kylie Weeks and Stephanie Winter reached on errors. Weeks and Winter each advanced a station after a wild pitch that was then corralled by FC catcher Robyn Draper and thrown into left field trying to catch Weeks at third base.  Weeks popped-up from the bag and sprinted home, scoring the Pumas’ first run of the game.

Shawn Hoskins followed by driving in the game tying run with a single through the left side of the infield. With two-outs and two runners on, Weaver blasted Enright’s pitch over the left-centerfield fence, giving SJC a 5-2 lead. Franklin and the SJC defense took care of the Saints in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.
