Pair of three-run homers gives Rowan a pair of wins against Springfield, Utica
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- No. 20 Rowan won two more games at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday. The Profs defeated Springfield 5-4 and Utica 6-4.
Rowan has a 9-3 record.
Against Springfield, right-hander LeAnne Miller earned the win in relief. Miller (5-2) went 4.2 innings and gave up two unearned runs. Righty Ashley Marino took the loss. In six innings, she allowed eight hits and five earned runs. Marino struck out six batters.
Jennifer Arcella went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run for the Profs. Stephanie Labas contributed two hits, including a double, one RBI and one run scored. Shilah Snead had two hits and one run scored. Katie Bussman chipped in with one hit and one RBI. Shannon Costello registered one hit and scored one run.
For the Pride, Jenna Webb was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Christina Leader collected three hits, one RBI and one run scored. Breann Joyce had two hits while Melissa Nelson had one hit and one run scored.
In the top of the first inning, Rowan produced two runs and Springfield tied the score in the bottom half. Labas knocked in Snead with a double to left field. Bussman had a RBI single to left-center. Webb recorded a two-run homer to center field.
The Profs went ahead on Arcella's three-run homer to left field in the fourth inning. The Pride pulled within one after two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Both runs came on errors.
Against Utica, Labas recorded a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. Ashley DeYoung had a solo home run and Arcella added one hit, one RBI and one run scored. Jess Phillips and Costello totaled two hits and one run scored apiece.
Miller (6-2) had her second win on the day. She pitched one inning of relief and allowed one hit and one unearned run. Cassidy Thompson was the losing pitcher.
The Pioneers’ Mallory Ingalls was 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run. Dominque Carcone contributed one hit and one RBI. Alysa Russell, Meghan Matan and Christy Taraglia each registered one hit and one run scored.
Rowan was up 3-0 after two runs in the second inning and one in the third. Arcella posted a sacrifice fly in the second that brought home Phillips. Costello crossed the plate on an error with Snead at bat. DeYoung’s home run came in the third inning.
Utica got on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the fourth. Ingalls had a solo home run and Carcone produced a sacrifice fly. The Pioneers tied the score in the top of the seventh. Matan and Traglia both came home on an error. In the bottom of the seventh, Arcella was hit by a pitch and catcher Meagan Lee reached base with a single. Labas’ home run went to left field. It was her fourth of the season.
