Cronin sets conference doubles record as No. 2 Texas-Tyler wins doubleheader
TYLER, Texas -- No. 2 Texas-Tyler defeated Ozarks 4-0, 15-0 in American Southwest Conference action on Friday. In the win, senior Joey Cronin set a new ASC doubles record in a season with her 23rd of the year.
In game one, both teams had solid pitching performances, with Heather Abshire and Amber Rollins both going deep into the game without giving up a run.
UT Tyler (36-2, 21-1) got the scoring started in the bottom of the fifth on a Abshire sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Joey Cronin, who reached on a double.
For Cronin, it was her 23rd double of the season, which sets a new high in the ASC, passing UMHB's Kacie Kripner and UT Tyler's Lindsey Peters who each had 22.
Ashley Endsley made the score 2-0 on a single to left field, scoring Rodriguez.
The Patriots added two more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a Vanessa Carrizales RBI double that scored Lauren Robenalt. Carrizales later scored on a wild pitch, making the score 4-0.
Abshire was stellar in the circle, going the full seven innings while giving up no runs, walking one and striking out three.
In game two, the Patriots exploded for 15 runs on 15 hits, with 12 different players recording a hit in the win.
Cronin began the scoring in the first with a leadoff home run, followed by a RBI single by Endsley, making the score 2-0.
UT Tyler exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the second, putting the game out of reach early.
Rodriguez recorded a RBI in the inning with a double, while Abshire also drove one in on a single.
Karley Geiger notched two RBIs on an error in centerfield, while Cronin added one more with a triple to center.
Ozarks (14-24, 4-18) could not overcome four errors in the second, giving up nine runs and six hits.
The Patriots scored four more runs in the third, this time on seven hits.
Endsley added another RBI with a double, while Amanda Lopez added one on a single to right field.
Carrizales added one more run on a single to third base, while the other run came on another Lady Eagle error, making the score 15-0.
Ozarks was unable to figure out the Patriots' pitching, totaling just three hits while striking out five times.
Batten pitched two innings, while Lopez finished off the game with three innings pitched.
Cronin continued her offensive onslaught, going 4-for-7 with three runs and two RBIs, while Endsley finished with three RBIs on three hits.
