Neumann beats Keystone to win fifth Colonial States Athletic championship
ASTON, Pa. -- Top-seeded Neumann defeated Keystone 14-6 to win its fifth Colonial States Athletic Conference championship on Saturday at Bruder Field.
Neumann took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second before the Giants scored three runs in the top of the third. The Knights stormed back, scoring three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead. The Giants pushed two runs across in the fifth.
Keystone added another run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 8-6. Neumann added one run in the fifth and then five in the sixth in a six-inning game.
Callie Emel led Neumann with four hits and two RBIs while Jackie Herrington had three hits and two RBIs. Megan Williams, Danielle Grayson, Allyson Parris and Mariah Ripken all had two hits apiece.
Abby Cohen led the Giants with four hits and one RBI while Lisa Ostrander had two hits and two RBIs.
Lauren Wilke worked 4.1 innings for the Knights (29-14), allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. Kristin Beaty came in and pitched 1.2 innings, giving up three hits and two runs while striking out two.
Ripken was named the championship MVP.
