Emory stays alive in Salem Regional with dominating victory against Roanoke
No. 4-ranked Emory stayed alive in the Division III Salem Regional on Sunday, posting an 8-1 victory against Roanoke.
In a game that was resumed from Saturday evening, the Eagles upped their record to 41-4. The Maroons ended their season with a mark of 31-14.
Junior Megan Light collected two of Emory's six hits and also knocked in a pair of runs. Sophomores Moira Sullivan and Micah Scharff each contributed two RBIs in the victory and helped junior pitcher Amanda Kardys to her 24th victory after she tossed 6 2/3 innings of relief.
Trailing by a 1-0 count heading into the bottom of the third on Saturday, Emory exploded for five runs in the inning. A one-out double by Light scored two runs while a two-out homer by Sullivan, her second round tripper of the season, accounted for the last two runs in the inning.
With the game resuming Sunday in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles wasted little time in putting the game out of reach. Scharff delivered a two-run double that allowed junior Claire Bailey and Light to cross the plate.
Emory added one more run in its half of the sixth.
