Weindruch drives in five as Luther beats Anderson (Ind.) 8-1 in NCAA tournament
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Luther advanced to the winner's bracket of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship by defeating Anderson (Ind.) 8-1 in its opener Friday at Carson Park.
Kelsey Weindruch got things going for the Norse in the top of the third with a three-run home run to left-center field. Weindruch also drove in two runs with a single to left during Luther's five-run fifth.
The Norse tallied 11 hits off the Anderson pitching staff. Carli Radil, Morgan Franklin and Miranda McCay all had two hits.
Becca Girvan improved to 23-5 in the circle. She allowed one run on six hits, walked one and stuck out seven.
The Norse will face Cortland State at 5 p.m. ET Saturday. Cortland upset top-ranked Salisbury 2-1 in the opening game of the tournament.
