Strong pitching leads top-ranked West Texas A&M to sweep
ODESSA, Texas -- West Texas A&M used a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader sweep of Texas-Permian Basin to remain perfect on the season in non-conference action at Falcon Field. The Lady Buffs move to 20-2 overall with the wins while the Falcons fall to 4-18 on the season.
In the first game, the Lady Buffs wasted no time scoring as Alyssa Lemos and Renee Erwin registered walks in the opening frame followed by a wild pitch to move them up 60 feet into scoring position before a Kaisha Dacosin two run infield single with two outs for the early 2-0 lead.
WT added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning as Dacosin doubled to right field followed by an errant Falcon throw that allowed the junior outfielder to score with no outs, Brittany Gehle added to the lead with one out as she grounded into a fielder's choice to drive in Allie Cranfill from third base for the 4-0 lead after three and a half innings of play.
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring in the nightcap as Lemos scored from second base on a UTPB error with no outs in the top of the first followed two batters later by a Dacosin RBI sacrafice flyout to foul territory in left field as Tyler Wilkinson scored from third base to give WT the early 2-0 lead. Lemos added to the lead in the top of the second inning as she launched a solo homerun over the left field fence with two outs for the 3-0 lead.
The Falcons plated their first run of the nightcap in the bottom of the second inning as Miley McKee singled to left field followed by a WT fielding error to advance to second base with two outs, Anna Hollingsworth doubled to the left center field gap to drive in McKee from second base to cut the Lady Buff lead to 3-1 after two complete innings of play.
