Shane Winkler
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Charleston Southern head coach Shane Winkler has signed a four-year contract extension, the CSU athletic administration announced.

Winkler had one year remaining on his contract and is now signed through the 2019 season. CSU does not disclose the financial terms of coaching contracts.

Winkler, who just completed his sixth season as the Bucs' head coach, is the winningest coach in program history with 156 career wins. The Bucs are coming off the first NCAA tournament berth in school history after winning the 2014 Big South Conference championship.

"The best is still to come for Buccaneer softball. I'm excited for the future," Winkler said.

Winkler led CSU to its first 30-win season in 2010, a school-record 33 wins in '12, and to an NCAA tournament berth in May. The Bucs have played in the Big South championship game in two of the past three seasons.

"Since his first day at CSU, Shane Winkler has set his focus on winning Big South Conference championships and competing at the national level," Dr. Rick Brewer, CSU vice president for student affairs and athletics, said. "His expertise and commitment to student-athlete welfare and leadership development have moved the softball program to new levels of excellence and expectation. The CSU community is pleased to know Shane will continue to lead our softball program in the years ahead."

Winkler and the Buccaneers made history in May, going a perfect 4-0 in the 2014 Big South Championships. CSU topped rival and top-seeded Coastal Carolina 3-1 in the championship game to advance to the Knoxville Regional of the 2014 NCAA tournament.

Winkler has also had a major impact on the CSU Softball Complex with the addition of the new press box in the fall of 2013, which includes coaches offices and a team room, as well as a permanent grandstand and premium seating.
