No. 20 Whitworth extends streak
Four Pirates post double victories in easy win
WALLA WALLA, Wash. --No. 20 Whitworth finished its undefeated roll through the Northwest Conference dual meet season on Saturday at Harvey Pool in Baker Ferguson Fitness Center. The Pirates won 171-91, taking all of the relay events.
Whitworth completed its 12th consecutive unbeaten NWC dual meet season and has won 78 conference dual meets in a row.
Whitworth's Rory Buck won the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.31. Whitman's Paul Chang was second in 1:00.18, which was good enough to break Whitman's school record, originally set by Clint Collier in 2008 at 1:00.47.
Buck, who also won the 200-yard breaststroke, was one of four Whitworth men to win two individual events. Aaron Vaccaro joined Buck, as Vaccaro snapped his own Whitworth school record while winning the 100-yard butterfly in 50.24. He also won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.33.
Other double winners were for the Pirate men were Austin Vierra (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle) and Michael Woodward (100-yard backstroke, 200-yard individual medley).
Kevin Dyer added a second triumph for Whitman in the 1,650-yard freestyle, catching and passing Whitworth's Korey Kinney late in the race. Dyer finished in 17:10.70, outlasting Kinney at the end by 34 one-hundredths of a second.
After losing the 1,650-yard freestyle to Dyer, Kinney came back to win the 200-yard backstroke for the Pirate men, who also got a victory from Luke Welle in the 200-yard butterfly.
