Cortland posts 13-3 dual meet mark
Hanifin, Distler, Simon take multiple titles in Red Dragons’ win

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Mark Hanifin, freshman Matt Distler and junior Judd Simon each won two individual events as Cortland completed its dual-meet season with a 184-116 victory against visiting Fredonia. Cortland finishes the regular season with a 13-3 record and will now prepare for the SUNYAC Championships, which will be held Feb. 9-12 in Buffalo.
Hanifin won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.77) and 500-yard freestyle (5:01.81), while Distler touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.11) and 100-yard freestyle (48.27). Simon was the 200-yard backstroke winner (2:03.77) and the 400-yard individual medley winner (4:30.47).
Sophomore Justin Nelson won the 100-yard backstroke (55.11) and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.03). Senior Dan Caputo captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.06), and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Distler, sophomore Dan Maximowicz, freshman Gregory MacDonald and freshman Luke Strothenke was victorious in 1:28.61.
Sophomore Kyle Kaznowski and junior Travis Burke earned the top two spots in the diving events. Kaznowski won the 1-meter board (267.05 points) and was second on the 3-meter board (282.80 points), while Burke won the 3-meter board (300.25 points) and was second in the 1-meter competition (264.60 points).
Cortland’s 200-yard medley relay team of Simon, freshman Andrew DellaVilla, freshman Brandon McManus and Distler finished second in 1:41.40, only 0.15 seconds off the winning time. McManus finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:24.55), junior Danny Salvatore was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.68), sophomore Dan MacQuarrie placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.61) and junior Dylan Scheemaker was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (55.70).
