Delia to head swimming program
Former Randolph-Macon coach joins Franklin & Marshall
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Patricia S.W. Epps, director of athletics and recreation, announced Ben Delia as head men's and women's swimming coach at Franklin & Marshall College. A 2005 graduate of Hamilton College, Delia spent the last three seasons as head women's swimming coach at Randolph-Macon where he developed a successful women's team and showed his recruiting skills by engineering the rebirth of the men's team.
"We look forward to welcoming Ben to Lancaster," Epps said. "It's great to have a coach who has had success as both a coach and an athlete at the Division III level."
In 2008-09, the Jackets went 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the ODAC. Under the direction of Delia, 113 swimmers set personal-best swims. Randolph-Macon's 11 dual-meet wins set a single season record, while eight Jackets were named to the All-ODAC team. Six different swimmers helped set new Estes Aquatic Center pool records, while five swimmers set six school records as well.
In his first season in 2007-08, Delia helped Randolph-Macon to an 8-3 dual meet record, including a 6-1 mark against ODAC foes. The Yellow Jackets capped off the season with a second-place showing at the ODAC and Atlantic States Championships in February. Delia came to the Yellow Jackets program after a stint as an assistant coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. and a successful four-year career at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.
During his time at Trinity, Delia assisted in all phases of the Bantams' swimming and diving program, including on deck coaching, recruiting, team travel, fundraising and other administrative duties. Delia helped Trinity to six dual-meet wins in 2006-07 and guided swimmers to a host of school and freshmen records while assisting four swimmers to USA Sectional qualifying times.
As a student-athlete, Delia was a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference all-league team and was a championship finalist on several occasions.
