OXFORD, Ohio — Ian Stewart-Bates and Colton Spark both swam to victory in a pair of events on Saturday afternoon, but their efforts couldn’t push Kenyon past Miami (Ohio). The NCAA Division I RedHawks won ten of the 16 total events contested and chalked up a 163-135 victory.
Spark, a freshman, took care of business in the distance events for the Lords. He first swam to victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle by clocking in at 9:38.76. Later in the meet, Spark turned in a winning time of 4:43.52 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Stewart-Bates, a junior, controlled the condensed events. He claimed first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.67 and in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.64. His time in the 100 was good enough to clear the NCAA’s ‘B’ standard of 46.04.
The Lords’ other two event wins came from senior Joey Pysnik and from sophomore Alex Beckwith. Pysnik posted his win in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.02), while Beckwith captured victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.58).
