Sishc finishes third in platform dive
Ipsen will compete at NCAA championship for the Cardinal
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Junior Taylor Sishc finished third in the platform at the Regional Zone E Championship on Saturday, while freshman Kristian Ipsen and sophomore Stephanie Phipps earned spots into the NCAA Championships following three days of diving.
At least four Stanford divers finished in the top-10 in all three events this past weekend, with the men having four platform divers in the top-eight today.
Sishc led the Cardinal on day three with 661.00 points, followed by fifth place Dhruv Tyagi (643.10), seventh place Noah Garcia (602.30) and Ipsen (594.65).
Over the previous two days, Stanford had all six male divers in the top-10 of the 1-meter and four divers in the top-10 of the 3-meter. That does not include Phipps, who was fifth in the 1-meter and who will return to the NCAA Championships after All-America honors last year as a freshman.
Ipsen proved he was human on Saturday, finishing eighth in his first ever collegiate platform event after winning 14-straight 1- and 3-meter collegiate titles and competing on the 3-meter springboard during the World Cup last month.
Of the seven men selected to leave the West Region for the NCAA's, Ipsen is the lone freshman among the other six seniors.
Ipsen was the only diver in the 3-meter nationally to score over 900, tallying a 930.90. He was one of eight over 800. In the 1-meter, his 823.10 scores was one of two scores over 800, joining Hayden Jones (811.10).
All eight Zone divers for the Cardinal will return next season.
