Seryy rolls to 50 freestyle title
Nine champions crowned on day one of championship
MANSFIELD, Texas -- Nine champions were crowned on day one of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.
The first to claim a title was Erin Dolan of Drury who won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:53.33.
Wingate’s Iaroslav Denysenko won the men’s 1000 freestyle by touching in at 8:59.13.
In the 200 individual medley, Amanda Thomas of Southern Connecticut claimed the women’s title having a time of 2:00.09. Grand Valley State’s Aaron Beebe won the men’s event touching the wall in 1:46.32.

Melissa Gates of California (Pa.) set a NCAA record in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 22.59.
On the men’s side, Andrey Seryy claimed the title in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.47.
In the women’s 3-meter diving, Carly Sevald of Wayne State finished with a score of 503.40 to claim the top spot.
The final events of the evening were the 200 men’s and women’s medley relays.
In the women’s competition, the team of Alexandria Malfroid, Kayla Scott, Perezoria Martinez and Ashley Corriveau from Wayne State won the title with a time of 1:42.94.
The team from Bridgeport won the men’s event as Oscar Pereiro, Ruben Gimenez, Ilkka Hanhineva and Krzysztof Wilk out-swam the competition with a time of 1:28.38.
