AUSTIN, Texas — Cal won its third relay title and captured two individual gold medals to take the lead after two days of competition at the NCAA women’s swimming and diving championships.

The Bears set an American and NCAA record by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 35.03 seconds Friday.

Cal leads with 295 points. Georgia is second with 274.5 and Southern California is third with 253.

Amanda Sims won the 100 butterfly and Cindy Tran was first in the 100 backstroke for the Bears.

Georgia’s Allison Schmitt earned her second gold medal when she won the 200 freestyle in 1:42.08. Schmitt also anchored the Bulldogs’ winning 800 freestyle relay team.

Abby Johnston of Duke won the 3-meter diving competition.
