Henderson State won the women’s portion of the HSU Invitational swimming meet over the weekend, scoring 373 points, ahead of second place finisher Ouachita Baptist who scored 326. The men’s squad finished second behind OBU in a close competition 365-344, but still defeated three other schools.

The Lady Red Wave kicked off its event by winning the 200 free relay event, as the foursome of Tara Grieger, Audra Elrod, Amanda Kliewer and Nicole Horn won the event in 1:38.51.

Kliewer, Elrod and Horn won the 400 freestyle relay with Nikki Colton. Colton also won three consolation events individually.

Rebekah Norman won the 200 breaststroke (2:31.15), while Horn took 100 freestyle honors.

Horn and Grieger had outstanding meets for the women’s team, as Horn won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.50 and Grieger won the 50 freestyle in 24.99.

The team of Natalie Gallant, Catie Morrow, Allison Kliewer and Horn won the 400 medley relay event in 3:59.90 and the 200 medley relay in 1:50.30.

Chelsea Leary won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.94, and also earned the fastest time in the 200 backstroke consolation.

The Red Wave was led by All-American Grant Beahan, who won the 50 freestyle and 200 butterfly (1:56.03). Beahan also swam with Nick James, Levi Mische and Terrance Fogle to easily win the 400 freestyle relay event in 3:07.92.

James and fellow freshman Zach Interrante also did well, as James won the 400 IM in 4:15.17, while Interrante swam the 100 butterfly in 50.54 for the win.

Robert Fisher swam the fastest time in the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle events for Henderson State.

The swimming and diving team will Christmas Invitational Dec. 4 and 5 in Little Rock, Ark.
