Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's swimming & diving team captured first place at the 2009 Calvin Winter Invitational over the weekend. The Lakers scored 1,118 team points, followed by Bowling Green State (1,018) and Hillsdale College (503).

The Lakers' 400 medley relay team of Kim Baughman, Lauren Dorsey, Carly Bush and Kelsey Vermeer finished second (3:53.87) and hit the DII "A" mark. GVSU's 200 medley relay team of Baughman, Toni Musto, Bush and Jenna Faletti hit the "A" mark and finished second (1:47.30), while Marissa Orr, Lauren Dorsey, Allison Scholz and Vermeer finished third (1:47.74). Erin Kinney set a pool record and hit the "B" standard in the 500 free (5:04.65), while Bush also hit the "B" mark with her second place finish (5:08.05). Marissa Doepker touched fourth and hit the "B" standard with her time of 5:11.72. Samantha Andrews finished fifth in the 200 back (2:10.08), while Orr was sixth (2:10.93) and Amy Myers seventh (2:11.75).    

Doepker hit the "B" mark in the 100 butterfly with her sixth place finish (58.86). Musto set the pool record and hit the "A" standard with her first place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.41), while Lauren Dorsey also hit the "A" mark when she touched second (2:20.83). Vermeer finished third in the 100 free and hit the "B" mark with her time of 52.64. Katelyn Childers touched fourth (53.14) and Jenna Faletti fifth (53.29). Musto finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:13.57) and Lakers' 400 free relay team of Stump, Childers, Faletti and Vermeer hit the "B" standard and finished second with a time of 3:31.38. Karen Verbrugge set the pool record with her first place score of 447.30 on the 1-meter board, while Rachel Strom was second (406.80).
