West Chester Women Cap Cavalier Invitational With Four National Qualifiers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – West Chester University’s women’s swimming team qualified three individuals while making it a clean 5-for-5 sweep in the relay qualification department as the Golden Rams placed third overall in the team standings with 472 points at the Aquatics and Fitness Center Saturday night.
Host Virginia won the meet with 1,542 points. Kansas was second with 799 points. Washington & Lee was right behind West Chester with 218 points followed by American (207 points) and Yale (47 points).
The meet featured a championship-style format with prelims for each event in the mornings and finals at 6 p.m.
Jackie Borkowski hit an NCAA qualifying time for the third straight day, touching the wall in 51.13 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle. She qualified for nationals in the 100 backstroke Friday and the 50 free on Thursday. Borkowski was also a member of all five relay squads, which hit qualifying times. The 400 free relay made it 5-for-5 in that category with a time of 3:29.27. Borkowksi teamed with Kristen Montello, Danielle Ierley and Megan Bauer.
Erin Fischer will be swimming in multiple events at the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships in March as well. She swam the 200 butterfly in 2:05.56. She hit the qualifying time in the 100 fly on Friday. Fischer was sixth overall Saturday.
West Chester University’s women totaled six individual ‘A’ qualifying times in all over the weekend with five relay qualifications to boot. Danielle Ierley was the sixth and final qualifier with a time of 17:26 in the 1650 free.
The Golden Rams are off until January 15-16 when they travel to Trenton, N.J., for a tri-meet with Johns Hopkins and The College of New Jersey.
