Indianapolis tops Wayne State (Mich.)
Donahue leads Greyhounds past defending national runner-up
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis opened its home schedule with a 163-131 win at the Pink Meet on Saturday against national runner-up and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Wayne State (Mich.).
The Greyhounds were led by junior All-American Maura Donahue with four victories, highlighted by a 2012 NCAA "B" cut in the 1,000 free in 10:29.69. She won the 500 free in 5:12.19 and the 100 free in 53.35, while Madeira was third in 54.34. She also swam the second leg on the victorious 200 free relay with Julia Madeira, Vicki Galiamoutsa and Meghan Donahue in 1:37.58.
An all-freshman squad of Julia Walters, Samantha Asencio, Hayley Good and Sarah Griffin finished second in the 200 free in 1:40.62, while Griffin, Jaclyn Luscomb, Ashlee Fishburn and Galiamoutsa were second in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.43 behind winners Meghan Donahue, Amber Cooper, Asencio and Madeira in 1:50.35.
Other winners for the Greyhounds were Madeira in the 50 free (24.46, with Walters second in 24.73), Good in the 200 free (1:57.91), Cooper in the 100 breast (1:08.07, with Luscomb third in 1:09.02) and Asencio in the 100 fly (1:00.37, with Fishburn second in 1:01.47) and 200 fly (2:14.23, with Fishburn second in 2:18.34).
Cooper had a pair of seconds in the 200 breast (2:30.27) and 200 IM (2:17.35), while Luscomb was third in the 200 breast (2:36.23). Meghan Donahue was second in both the 100 (1:00.84) and 200 back (2:16.38), while Risa Ricard was third in the 100 back (1:05.20) and Griffin was third in the 200 back (2:17.65).
