Grand Valley State men and women sweep UIndy in nationally ranked faceoff
ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Nationally ranked Grand Valley State and Indianapolis faced off on Saturday in the final regular season dual meet of the season, with GVSU taking both the men's and women's titles. The No. 12 Grand Valley State women claimed a 177-123 victory against No. 16 Indianapolis, while the 11th-ranked GVSU men won 188-112 against No. 15 Indianapolis.
The women finished the dual meet portion of the season 7-3 overall and 6-1 versus DII competition, while the men finished 6-2 overall and 6-0 in DII competition.
The GVSU women won 11 events en route to the win, including nine individual event wins. Junior Caitlyn Madsen won three events and was a part of a first-place relay team, while sophomore Olivia Schultz and junior Danielle Vallier each won a pair of individual events. Freshman Taylor Wiercinski set a freshman record on the 3-meter board with a score of 298.20.
The Laker men also won 11 events, with nine individual wins. Freshman Gianni Ferrero and sophomore Milan Medo each won three events and swam a leg on a first-place finishing relay. Ferrero set a pool and freshman record in the 200 free (1:38.90), while also setting a pool record in the 400 IM (4:00.70). Nate Stoller set a pool record in the 100 butterfly (50.46).
