Barry routs Florida Tech
Buc sweep Panthers, losing just three games in bottom flights
MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Defending national champion Barry University got its season off to a good start on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 win against Florida Tech.
In doubles action, Barry’s Max Wimmer and Quentin Vachez handed Michael Schmidt and Stuart Perkins an 8-3 loss in flight one. At doubles two, Marco Mokrzycki and Emanuel Fraitzl defeated William Fountain and Drew Hollis 8-2. Sergio Velez and Ollie Lemaitre rounded out the Buccaneer doubles with a 8-0 blanking of Cory Hodes and Eddie Shelton.
The Bucs cleaned house in singles action as well. At the top spot, Fraitzl beat Schmidt 6-2, 6-0. Playing at No. 2, Wimmer left Hollis void of a single game, beating him 6-0, 6-0. Mokrzycki, returning to action for the first time since last year’s national championship, beat Jorge Abarca Montero 6-3, 6-2 in the third flight.
Like the upper singles flights, the Bucs dominated the lower singles flights as well, giving up only three games. At No. 4, Velez beat Tech’s Barry Dylewski 6-0, 6-1. Vachez downed DJ Pate 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, while Lemaitre rounded out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Donovan Wetterstein in the six spot.
