Stein rallies from down a set to win at No. 1 singles

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis rallied from a 2-1 deficit to pick up its first win of the season in a 5-4 victory against NCAA Division II No. 36 Southern Indiana 5-4 on Friday night at the Steel Shop Tennis Club.
With the match tied at 4-4, freshman Tim Noack clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Robert Nieters at No. 6 singles. The win improved Noack’s singles record to 9-0 in his rookie campaign.
Washington U. trailed Southern Indiana 2-1 after doubles play, with the Bears’ lone victory coming from sophomore Adam Putterman and freshman Max Franklin at No. 3 doubles 8-5.
The Bears swept the top three singles matches, led by a convincing straight-set victory by senior Max Woods against Rodrigo Flores at No. 2. Senior Isaac Stein at No. 1 (1-6, 6-2, 6-1) and Putterman at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4) also picked up wins at the top of the lineup for the Bears.
