No. 3 AASU swats USC Aiken

Pirates swept all three doubles matches for victory

AIKEN, S.C. — No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State remained unbeaten on the 2011 season with a 9-0 Peach Belt Conference victory against host USC Aiken on Wednesday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.

The Pirates (4-0, 2-0 PBC) swept all three doubles matches, then won all six singles matches in straight sets to defeat the Pacers (3-4, 0-3 PBC).

The top-ranked doubles duo of Rafael Array and Mikk Irdoja started the doubles with an 8-4 win against No. 14-ranked Gregory Andrade and Bruno Orlandini at No. 1 singles. The No. 8-ranked duo of Eudaldo Bonet and Daniel Regan collected an 8-3 win against Lucas Gobbi and Juan Guglielmeti at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 20-ranked duo of Matus Mydla and Pedro Scocuglia notched an 8-1 win against Josh Rees and Kyle Sprow at No. 3 doubles.

No. 2-ranked Bonet then began singles play with a 7-5, 6-2 win versus No. 38-ranked Andrade at No. 1 singles. No. 4-ranked Irdoja claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win against Orlandini at No. 2 singles, while No. 13-ranked Array beat Gobbi, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 3 singles.

No. 21-ranked Regan bested Guglielmeti, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and No. 30-ranked Mydla downed Rees, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles. Scocuglia completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Sprow at No. 6 singles.
