COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 3 Ohio State, coming off a semifinal run at the ITA National Indoor Team Championship Feb. 18-20, began its doubleheader Thursday with a 7-0 shutout over Cleveland State. The Buckeyes extended their home win streak to 119-consecutive victories en route to earning the 1,000th win in program history. The men's tennis team now has an overall record of 1,000-693-10 in its century-long existence.

The Buckeyes improve to 7-0 all-time vs. the Vikings. Head coach Ty Tucker improves to 6-0 against the in-state opponent, never allowing his teams to give up a single point.

Teaming up for the first time, Buckeyes Ille Van Engelen and Steven Williams quickly defeated Matt Ford and Aris Spirtos, 8-0, in doubles action at No. 3. Williams moves to 3-0 on the season in doubles play, while Van Engelen improves to 2-1.

Senior co-captain Balazs Novak and redshirt-sophomore Devin McCarthy won, 8-2, over Vikings' Matt Kuelker and Chris Klepatz to capture the doubles point at the No. 2 position.

Rounding out doubles action, senior co-captains Matt Allare and Shuhei Uzawa teamed up for the second time this season, winning, 8-4, over Robert Fox and John Haley.

In singles action, Williams, a native of New York, put the Buckeyes up 2-0 with a straight-set 6-0, 6-1 win vs. Jay Jones at No. 6. McCarthy, the 55th-ranked player nationally, and Van Engelen both won their matches 6-0, 6-0. McCarthy downed Haley at No. 4 while Van Engelen beat Kuelker at No. 2 to clinch the victory.

In other matches, Novak extended his win streak to 12 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Klepatz. Allare, competing at the No. 1 position for the first time this year, handed Fox a 6-1, 6-4 loss. Finishing the shutout for Ohio State, Nelson Vick won 6-2, 6-2 against Ford, to extend his win streak to 11 matches.
