No. 5 W. Florida beats C. Okla.
Argonauts win all three doubles match en route to victory
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 5 University of West Florida women’s tennis team (8-5, 3-0 GSC) defeated No. 20 Central Oklahoma (6-6, 1-1 LSC), 7-2, Friday at the Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex on the UWF campus. UWF and Central Oklahoma are both in NCAA Division II, but UWF competes in the South Region and Central Oklahoma competes in the South Central Region.
The Argonauts won all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 doubles position, Caitlyn Baines and Taylor Brewster defeated Julia Shviadok and Eli Abramovic, 8-2. Baines and Brewster are the No. 5 doubles duo in the South Region. Jacqueline March and Luiza Sonnervig defeated Lucy Caldwell and Anto Rossini, 8-2, at the No. 2 position. At No. 3, Mariana Sonnervig and Hannah Durham defeated Rose Cabato and Anna Kochigina, 8-5.
Naomi Higa put the Argos up 4-0 when she blanked Lindsey Sweetgall, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 singles position. Luiza Sonnervig clinched the victory for UWF with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Rossini at the No. 3 line. Abramovic defeated Yana Bokareva, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot. UWF went up 6-1 as Brewster defeated Shviadok, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1. March recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Cabato at No. 4. In the final match to finish, Kochigina defeated Jessica Hsu, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 6 position.
