AUSTIN, Texas – Top-ranked Virginia remained unbeaten as it rallied in singles for a 5-2 win against No. 6 Texas Sunday afternoon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Cavaliers came back from losing the doubles point and dropping four first sets in singles to get the win and improve to 18-0 this season. The Longhorns fell to 12-4 overall.

In doubles, Texas swept all three matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. The Longhorns then used that momentum to win four of the six first sets.

The Cavaliers began their rally at No. 1 singles, where Michael Shabaz cruised past Ed Corrie 6-1, 6-2 to tie the match at 1-1. Drew Courtney gave Virginia the lead at 2-1 as he completed a 7-6, 6-2 win against Vasko Mladenov at No. 4.

Sanam Singh extended the Cavs' lead to 3-1 as he came back for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 against Jean Andersen.

Texas closed to 3-2 with Kellen Damico’s 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 against Jarmere Jenkins but Julen Uriguen clinched the victory for UVa with his 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 come-from-behind win against Daniel Whitehead at the No. 5 spot. Justin Shane finished the match with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 against David Holiner.

Virginia played the match without freshman Alex Domijan, the nation’s No. 2 ranked singles player. Domijan missed the match due to being given a wild card into qualifying for the Sony Ericsson Open, an ATP 1000 Masters Series Event. Qualifying at the tournament in Miami begins Monday.
