ST. LOUIS -- 15th-ranked Chicago edged fifth-ranked Washington University 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

Chicago (12-3) set the tone from the start of the match, winning all three doubles matches.

Junior Jan Stefanski and freshman Alex Golovin won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Junior Troy Brinker and freshman Neil Karandikar  won at No. 2, and freshmen Krishna Ravella and Zsolt Szabo won at No. 3, both by 8-5 scores.

A Stefanski win at No. 6 singles gave the Maroons a 4-1 lead before the Bears won at the second and fifth positions to make it 4-3.

Brinker then clinched the match for Chicago with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) decision at No. 3 singles.

For Washington, the loss marked its first home defeat of the season and only their third in the last seven years.
