#11 Ouachita Baptist 5, #15 Northwood (Mich.) 2

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.-The #11 Ouachita Baptist men's tennis team battled out a 5-2 victory over #15 Northwood (Mich.) today in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Championships. Starting off by dropping the first doubles match to Northwood (15-6), Ouachita Baptist (18-6) took a 2-1 lead heading into singles action. In their fifth NCAA appearance, the Tigers will now advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals tomorrow morning against #2 Barry University.

Northwood's Christian Stolze and Bastien Labarta defeated Alejandro Chong and Joan Costa by the score of 8-4 at the third spot in the doubles lineup before Ouachita Baptist bounced back at the top two spots for the early lead. The 18th-ranked duo in the nation, Emilien Rabin and Vagen Akapian, took down Marius Broek and Chris Sundermeier, the 14th-ranked pair, by score of 8-5 at the top position. At No. 2 doubles, Jakub Smid and Ondrej Vana downed Tomas Menec and Carlos Canudas by the score of 8-3.

Beginning singles action, Stolze, ranked 18th in the nation, defeated Rabin 7-5, 6-1 at the top position to tie the match at 2-2. Akapian gave Ouachita Baptist it's lead back at with a 7-6 (4-7), 7-5 win over #44 Sundermeier at the second spot. Quickly notching a victory at the fourth spot, Vana defeated Canudas by the score of 6-1, 6-0. With the deciding match point, Pintaluba came from behind to tally a victory against Menec by the score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The quarterfinal match with Barry is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow at Sanlando Park.
