SAVANNAH, Ga. - The defending DII national champion Armstrong Atlantic State men's tennis team will begin the 2009 season as the top-ranked team in the nation after this week's release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national men's tennis rankings.

The Pirates, who went 31-0 last season in capturing the school's first-ever NCAA Division II men's tennis title, ascended to the No. 1 ranking in March of 2008 and have held the top spot ever since.

Freshman Edualdo Bonet is atop the ITA men's tennis singles rankings after capturing the ITA DII singles title in the fall. He is joined in the rankings by senior Paul Bishop, who is ranked No. 11; sophomore Tim Johannsen, who is ranked No. 21, and sophomore Rafael Array, who checks in at No. 37.

The doubles duo of Array and Johannsen are ranked No. 8 in the ITA national doubles ranking as well.

The Pirates have completed their fall schedule and will next be in action in its spring season opener on February 5 at Flagler.
