No. 1 AASU Too Much For USC Aiken

SAVANNAH, GA - The national ranked number one Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic at swept the men and women's tennis teams today the AASU Tennis Complex. The No. 23 USC Aiken men's team was defeated 8-1 while the women were shutout, 9-0.
The Pacers are now 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, as the Lady Pacers drop to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Number 19 ranked senior Dagberto Darezzo pulled out the lone win for the Pacers as he defeated the No. 11 ranked Paul Bishop. The first set went to a seventh set as Darezzo squeaked out the 7-6 victory. In the second set, Darezzo put more pressure on Bishop as Darezzo came away with the 6-3 win. This is Darezzo's 43rd win as a Pacer, as he currently sits at number three on the all-time singles win list.
Number six ranked senior Bruno Seves had a tough matchup at the no. 1 spot in the lineup against the number one ranked Edualdo Bonet. Seves went into the match fighting but fell 6-4, 6-1.
On the women's side of things, the No. 1 ranked and defending Division II national champions, AASU proved to be as tough as the polls say they are.
The Pacers opened play in the doubles competition as the dropped all three matches by the same 8-0 score.
In singles play, USC Aiken won 11 sets as junior Maria Soledad Angel record five set victories. She played the number 38 Martina Beckmann at the No. 3 spot in the lineup and fell 6-2, 6-3.
Junior Brittany Telford racked up four set victories as she took on the No. 33 ranked Alisa Kagukina. Telford fell 6-1, 6-3 at the four spot.
The Pacers will return to action on Friday, February 13 as they take on Benedict College. The first serve is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the USCA Tennis Complex.
