GAMBIER, Ohio - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 14th nationally, competed in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships Saturday, May 9. With a 5-1 victory over #21 Kalamazoo College, the Tartans advanced to the finals of the Regional Sunday. The win moves the Tartans dual record to 20-7, as Kalamazoo ends their season at 15-9.

The Tartans took a 2-1 lead winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The tandem of sophomore Alex Nemerov (Lake Forest, Ill.) and junior Ravi Raghavan (Saratoga, Calif.) won 8-3 at No. 2, while juniors James Muliawan (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and Nikola Ljuboja (Highland Park, Ill.) won 8-4 at No. 3.

Muliawan, Nemerov and junior Jon Spero (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) all won in singles play. Muliawan won at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 to seal the match for the Tartans.

Carnegie Mellon will face the winner of Kenyon / Mount Union Sunday, May 10 in the Regional Final at 1:00 p.m.
