Luther advanced to the NCAA III National Tournament region final following an exciting 5-4 come-from-behind victory over #16 Texas-Tyler this morning in St. Peter, Minn. Gustavus Adolphus College is hosting the first three rounds of the national tournament May 7-10.

Utsab Rijal and Thomas Orser recorded the only doubles victory by a score of 8-5, as the Norse fell behind 2-1 early in the match.

In singles action, the Norse won four of six matches en route to the victory. Iowa Conference MVP Scott Sundstrom posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #1. Rijal at #4 also posted a straight set victory. Orser at #5 and Mark Mateski at #6 secured the Norse victory posting hard fought three-set wins. Orser lost his first set 7-5 and rebounded with 6-2, 6-2 wins. Mateski won his first set 7-5, dropped a 6-3 decision in the middle and then posted a 6-4 victory.

The win gives Luther an overall record of 36-5. Luther will play the winner of the Gustavus Adolphus - UW-Whitewater match that is schedule to take place at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. Sunday's regional final will begin at noon. The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the national finals that will be held May 19-21, at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is the host.
