The top-ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team defeated Queens (NY) 5-0, Wednesday evening in the Round of 16 at the Men's Tennis 2010 National Championships from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The top-ranked Blazers demonstrated their first-place muscle Wednesday evening, taking out Queens (NY) in convincing fashion to move into Quarterfinals play.

The Blazers took control of the match right from the beginning as the No. 1 team of Philip Pakebusch and Michael Kuech blanked Polus and Minami, 8-0. It was followed by a pair of impressive performances at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. In the No. 2 slot, Daniel Dueren and Christian Hansen took down Burstein and Smith, 8-1, while Otto Lenhart and Frank Sickman defeated Preston and Hiraoka, 8-2.

The Blazers finished up their impressive first round performance with a pair of straight-set wins at the No. 1 and No.5 positions. Pakebusch bounced Polus 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, before Kutschenko suppressed the offensive attack of Nanikashvili 6-1,6-0 in the fifth spot.

With the match secured, the remaining contests went unfinished.

Valdosta State advances to the Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 13 to take on Abilene Christian. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
