ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 11-ranked Concordia Clippers' men's tennis team upended No. 16-ranked St. Edward's 5-1, Thursday afternoon in quarterfinal action of the 2010 Men's Tennis National Championships, from the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The win secures the Clippers a spot in the semifinals, while Northwood (MI) is eliminated from the tournament.

The Clippers and Hilltoppers played an exciting, back-and-forth brand of doubles tennis, with each team scoring at least five points. Still, it was Concordia that totaled two of the three wins. The No. 1 team of Alex Grubin and Andrey Boldarev tallied the first point for the Clippers as they took down the duo of Walter and Barrios, 8-6. St. Edward's responded with a point of their own at the No. 2 spot when Ned Boone and Brett Powers outlasted the Concordia pair of Namais and Missal, 8-5. In the third and final position, Tamas Dobrotka and Andreas Lindell willed their way to an 8-6 doubles victory over Raiti and Lancaster.

The Clippers drew from the momentum in doubles to take all three singles matches. Grubin opened play with a straight sets victory over Boone, 6-0, 6-4. Shortly after, Lindell posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position. The Clippers dropped in the the fifth and deciding point at No. 2 singles when Boldarev prevailed in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 over Powers.

With the match secured, the remaining contests went unfinished.

The Clippers will now take on the winner of Barry and Armstrong Atlantic on Friday, May 14 in NCAA Semifinals action. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
