PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Texas at Tyler men's tennis team swept the doubles competition and picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles to score a 5-0 win over Marywood in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships Thursday on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University.

The Patriots (15-6) advance to play Mary Washington, winner of the Capital Athletic Conference, at 10 a.m. EDT Friday in the second round.

The combo of Adam Chirhart and Joshua Chavez gave the Patriots their first doubles point, downing Marywood's Barrett Wentworth and Ethan Jones, 8-2. David Ashlock and Andrew Reznik followed with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Patriots and the sweep of doubles came with an 8-2 win by Nick Kreines and Brad Fenter at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Chirhart scored a pair of 6-0 wins over Marywood's Daniel Pfafman at No. 3 singles and Kreines finished off the match for the Patriots with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Nolan Wyatt in the No. 6 singles slot.

Marywood, champions of the Colonial States Athletic Conference, finished its season with a 15-4 mark.

The UT Tyler men are playing in their third consecutive NCAA Tournament after winning the American Southwest Conference Championship this season.
