The Musketeers kept the match close in doubles play but the Illini managed to hold on for the doubles point and won three straight singles points to seal the match.

The duo of JT Torbeck and Bobby Deye kept things close at No. 3 doubles but the Illini tandem of Connor Roth and Stephen Hoh held on for the 8-6 win to seal the doubles point.

In singles play, No. 47 ranked Dennis Nevolo defeated Xavier sophomore Richard Canelas 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 match which gave Illinois a 2-0 lead.

Torbeck fell to Hoh 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and No. 81 ranked Abe Souza defeated XU sophomore Patrick Bandy 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 match to seal the Illini win.

With the loss, Xavier finished the season at 17-8 overall. Illinois improved to 20-10 overall and will face fellow Big Ten member, Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament tomorrow.
