SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- San Diego won its sixth consecutive match by knocking off No. 33 Rice 6-1 on Wednesday. The 25th-ranked Toreros improved to 9-2 with the win, while the Owls dropped to 9-4 on the year.

USD got started with an 8-4 doubles win from its 28th-ranked duo of Dean Jackson and Patrick Pohlmann against Michael Nuesslein and Peter Frank. Rice bounced back by taking the victory on court three as Christian Saravia and Isamu Tachibana defeated Thibaut Visy and Clarke Spinosa 8-1.

The Toreros clinched the doubles point when Nikola Bubnic and Nils Schive outlasted Harry Fowler and Oscar Podlewski 9-7 on court two.

Singles action started with four consecutive Torero victories, kicked off by Jackson's 6-2, 6-1 handling of Fowler, who came in ranked 82nd nationally. Jackson, ranked 47th, improved to 21-5 with the win.

At No. 4, Spinosa took care of Philipp Seifert 6-0, 6-4 to give the Toreros a 3-0 advantage. Spinosa won his sixth consecutive singles match. Visy followed with the clinching victory at No. 5, a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Saravia to earn his 21st win of the year.

Keeping the momentum going in USD's favor was Bubnic, who bounced back from dropping the first set to Frank 3-6 to take the second and third sets 6-1 and 6-2, respectively.

The only Rice win came at No. 6 singles as Tachibana battled past freshman Emilio Mora for a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 victory.

Pohlmann wrapped up the day with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win against Podlewski at No. 3. The win bumped Pohlmann up to 8-2 in dual singles play.
