Armstrong Atlantic dominates Rollins
Pirates’ Rumenov downs Tars’ top-ranked Jovita in consecutive sets
WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Jason Alabaster picked up a point in singles, but that would be No. 8 Rollins’ lone score as the Tars were downed by No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State, 8-1 in their season opener on Friday.
Alabaster defeated Daniel Regan 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 in the No. 5 match to score the lone point for Rollins (0-1).
In doubles play, the Pirates' third-ranked duo of Matus Mydla and Pedro Scocuglia downed Jeff Morris and Alabaster in a tight match 9-8(6). Armstrong Atlantic's Mikk Irdoja and Daniel Regan took Lucas Jovita and Bernardo Barosso 8-6 in the No. 2 match. Eudaldo Bonet and Georgi Rumenov defeated Ari Davis and Malte Christesen 8-5 in the No. 3 match to complete the doubles sweep for the Pirates.
In singles, top-ranked Jovita lost to Rumenov 6-1, 6-1 in the top-flight match. Irdoja downed 11th-ranked Morris in a marathon 7-6(4), 6-7(8), 10-4. In the No. 4 match, ninth-ranked Mydla downed Davis 6-0, 6-1 and 39th-ranked Sven Lalic took Malte Christesen 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 flight.
