MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Second-ranked Barry opened the season with a 9-0 win against No. 23 Florida Southern Saturday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Bucs were tested in two of the three doubles matches, but picked up a pair of 8-6 wins. Daniel Schmidt and Ollie Lemaitre won at No. 1, beating Ivan Marevic and Jorge Gutierrez at the top flight. Marco Mokrzycki and Kevin Sielmann took the point at No. 2, getting the better of Benoit Paradis and Carl Lundberg.

Romain Costamagna and Francisco Sigaud beat Nathan Leavitt and Emanuel Lueber 8-2 at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.

Mokrzycki rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win against Paradis at No. 1 singles to contine the Bucs' charge. Schmidt then beat Marevic 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Costamagna downed Lueber 6-2, 7-6 (4) at the No. 3 slot before Sielmann toppled Gutierrez 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Barry's Fabian Groetsch and Leo Vivas both endured first-set 7-5 victories to win in straight sets at the Nos. 5 and 6 singles flights, respectively. Groetsch beat Leavitt 7-5, 6-2 while Vivas held on to beat Lundberg 7-5, 6-0.
