Armstrong Atlantic rolls to victory
Rumenov knocks off third top-five opponent in singles
LAS VEGAS -- No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State began its trip to Las Vegas with an 8-1 win against No. 21 Hawaii Pacific on Monday.
Armstrong picked up wins in two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles. The duo of Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia downed Adriana Locorotondo and Georgi Yordanov 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.
Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla downed Gerald Moretti and Stephan Weling 8-4, at No. 3 doubles. Hawaii Pacific claimed a win at No. 1 doubles as Patric Guenther and Petr Michnev edged Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov, 9-8 (7-5).
The Pirates then picked up straight set wins in all six singles matches to finish off Hawaii Pacific. Rumenov knocked off his third top-five opponent of the season by beating No. 3-ranked Michnev 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. No. 2-ranked Bonet defeated Yordanov 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, while Irdoja bested Guenther 6-2, 7-5, at No. 3 singles.
No. 9-ranked Mydla downed Moretti 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4 singles while No. 39 Lalic beat Locorontondo, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5 singles. No. 28-ranked Scocuglia completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Weling at No. 6 singles.
