Second-ranked West Florida takes down conference foe West Alabama 8-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. –  No. 2 West Florida found success in its first match of the season against conference foe West Alabama on Wednesday at the Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex.

The 2012 NCAA Division II runner-ups defeated the Tigers 8-1. UWF (1-0, 1-0 GSC) lost its only match by retirement.

One of the top doubles tandems in the country in 2012, Kevin Ducros and Bruno Savi won at the No. 1 line 6-1, 6-0.

They were accompanied by victories by Domenico Sano and Tony Rajaobelina at the No. 2 spot, 8-6, and Elio Latela and Felipe Frattini, 8-3.

No. 13 Ducros took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 line, while No. 5 Savi took a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. Rajaobelina, ranked No. 20 in the South Region, won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, and Latela, ranked No. 15 in the region, won 6-2, 6-4. Sano won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Argos’ lone loss came by retirement when Frattini retired after a 6-1, 6-7, 0-1 score to account for the Tigers’ only point.
