No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic claims 8-1 victory against No. 16 Concordia
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic defeated No. 16 Concordia (N.Y.) 8-1 in a neutral-site match at North Florida on Friday.
The Pirates (8-0) remained unbeaten on the 2013 dual match season with the win against the Clippers (3-1), who suffered their first loss of the young season.
Armstrong swept all three doubles matches to take a quick 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The top-ranked doubles duo of Dan Regan and Georgi Rumenov beat Benas Majauskas and Omasz Olfans 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while No. 9 Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia upset No. 5 Antony Boldarev and Daniele Piludu 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Jaan Kononov and Matus Mydla followed with an 8-4 win against Andreas Lindell and David Tisserand.
In singles play, the Pirates won five singles matches to clinch the match. Top-ranked Rumenov downed Boldarev 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while No. 9 Mydla beat No. 44-ranked Olfans 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
No. 14 Regan upset No. 3 Piludu 6-3 6-1 at No. 3 singles and No. 18 Lalic downed Tisserand 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
No. 22 Scocuglia upended Majauskas 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while Concordia's only point of the match came at No. 6 singles as Lindell beat Pablo Gor in a third-set 10-point tiebreaker 7-5, 2-6, (10-8).
